i know Edwin is proper Old, but like. Charles has been on earth for well over 40 years now. and he's probably done a better job than Edwin of keeping up with the times (since he didn't have an extended absence in hell) but at some point, being ghosts and not interacting with the living very often must mean he's also not great at technology, or modern slang, or the evolving definitions of existing words. he seems to at least have some concept of what the internet is, but Crystal and Niko are the only ones shown actually using computers or phones.
what i'm saying is, i need more of Charles being a middle-aged man please

Hello, wonderful being(s) who operate this blog. Wayhaven has become a sort of home for me and I thank you so much for making and sharing it with all of us. It’s amazing to watch the world and fandom grow and following the process with you!? Incredibly generous and dedicated of you! It’s so clear that this is a labor of love and I hope that after all your hard work you are impressed or at the very least satisfied with the incredible amount of work you put into every aspect of this. It doesn’t go unnoticed.
Feel free to ignore this, but it’s a question I think about often while reading Wayhaven. We all know that N doesn’t like technology and believes (perhaps rightly so) that nowadays we rely on electronics too much. I happen to be legally blind and rely heavily on technology to get around that. Such as using my phone camera to zoom in on something I can’t see or read. Or having to need a voiceover to ‘read’ my books for me. N is my favorite and I wonder how they (and perhaps A, since they’re so old and seem to be rather wary of tech too) would feel about this aspect of technology or if the MC had to depend on such workarounds for their own limitations. I love how independent and capable the MC is and that there is no pressure or plans for the MC to become a vampire. But this particular ‘what if” comes to me often if I happen to be thinking of Wayhaven while I go about my day with my little tricks and such to do what I need to in order to see and get about.
So sorry for the long winded message. >.< Thank you so much again.
Aah, what a wonderful and kind message! Thank you so, so much! I'm so happy to hear Wayhaven is a home for you. I truly wanted it to be a space people can fall into and just lose themselves in.
As for your question, Nate/Nat probably would never have thought of the benefits of technology in this way. When they can fall back on magically-infused aids to help in things, that's where they would go to!
Adam/Ava is at least more open to uses of technology, but doesn't tend to use tech outside of what the Agency offers too.
N and N came from ages where tech just wasn't a thing, and even after all these centuries, they haven't come to rely on it yet, lol! :D
Thank you so much for the ask and again for the amazing message! <3

OP: Check out. The fully-sexual charged cinematic movement design.
Cnetizens: How did the director come up with the idea to have him kneel on a playing card, adding so much aesthetic energy, is that some kind of genius?

imagine being edwin payne and going to hell in 1916, then escaping hell and coming back to earth in the late 80s. the technology and culture shock would be fucking insane. like we joke a lot (rightfully) about his lack of understanding in the internet, but what about the instant shift he had to have made from occasionally getting to listen to classical music through a pre-radio gramophone, to hearing bass-boosted synth-heavy new wave pop blasting from nightclub speakers on every other london street corner? electrical appliances were basically just barely being introduced to the average home in the 1910s, then suddenly edwin has to wrap his head around every house having a refrigerator, a washing machine, a dryer, a microwave, a television– let alone what all this stuff is and what they all do. and let’s not even get started on social progress– women having rights, men on magazine covers wearing flashy makeup, legitimate interracial marriages existing, etc etc etc.
all this to say; he’s doing pretty good for someone that had to try and catch up on 70 years of technological and societal progress– not quite getting what the internet is yet seems pretty understandable in the scheme of things.

The whole Star Wars universe is so insane actually it's making my head hurt
Putting aside the fact that the entire galaxy is interconnected via space travel with more cultures and societies than the human mind can comprehend, the history is so, so old. The spacefaring history of the galaxy goes 100,000 years into the past, that's twice as much as the time between today and the extinction of neanderthals. And look how long it took us to figure out space travel, the history of individual planets will be even older. Look how long ago before the movie timeline SWTOR takes place, and there's already so many ancient ruins. No matter how far back you go, there will always be something older. Lost cities, technology, cultures covering the surfaces of planets. Entire civilizations built on whalefalls they believe to be mountains. So many remains of space vessels scattered on planetary surfaces, and even more that were left to float through space forever, their crews long dead. The spaces between planets are vast and there is nothing that would allow corrosion and decay except the UV radiation from stars. Stray too far from regular hyperspace routes and you might encounter these ghosts.
The entire galaxy is a graveyard

Last week, George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri did joint Cameos - us fans dubbed them "Gameoden." (It's just their names and Cameo combined). I'm woefully technologically inept so I don't know how to share the videos themselves on here, but I thought I'd share the screencaps I made from my 2 Gameodens and the links to where you can find the original posts on Instagram and Twitter as well as the direct links to Cameo. 💙❤️ Below, you'll see a little excerpt from my IG posts for them/re-wording to reflect the actual dates I received them. 💙❤️ ---- The top 2 screenshots are from my first Gameoden - The boys had perfect timing. I got the notification my Cameo from them was ready just before I left for work. 🥰 (I received it on 11/19/24 in the morning). There was even a surprise (and a very welcome) appearance from Raffy! ❤️ It truly made my day. Thank you for the very wise words, Jayden and George. I'll truly take them to heart. ✨ Two Tauruses and a Gemini unite! 💙❤️ Love you both so damn much! ✨ *Link to my IG post [x] *Link to my Tweets [x] *Link to my first G&J Cameo [x] ---- The bottom 2 screenshots are from my second Gameoden. I decided to splurge and treat myself to a second one. 💙❤️ I received it on the last day of their Cameo week (11/21/24). The boys are across the pond and so I had the pleasure of waking up on Thursday to a new video from these two incredible human beings again, right before work. ✨ I loved their answers to my questions. 🥰 "The Case of the Flying Bread Bin" - Jayden, that really does sound like quite a supernatural experience. Definite shoutout to the PHENOMENAL Amanda Tapping! 😎 I'm so glad she won a directing award recently. Hope your reunion with Ruthie is wonderful, boys! ❤️ Thank you two again a million times over for doing all these Cameos for the DBD Family! 🥹 I hope you two get some much-needed & well-deserved rest. Love you both beyond words. 💙❤️💀💀 *Link to my IG post [x] *Link to my Tweets [x] *Link to my 2nd G&J Cameo [x]

Charles: What the hell’s going on?
Edwin: I saved the day.
Crystal: No, you plugged ten fax machines into one outlet and caused a fire.
Edwin: But I pointed to the fire extinguisher and was like, “The fire extinguisher’s over there.”
Crystal: You pointed at the toaster oven.

Just a reminder that ne*l didn’t have much to do with dbda…our boys just sort of showed up in a comic he worked on and he didn’t do much of anything on the show…plus the sandman (both tv and comic) had way more people working on it then just him. Good omens (book) was much more terry Prattchet then him and the tv show is much more then just him. As for other works of his (ie. stardust) we just gotta suffer.
You can still, of corse, read the books but make sure to get them from somewhere like a used book store or lent by a friend. Plus there are always other places to read his books that don’t give money to him…
I know that a lot of people looked up to him and he helped many people to accept themselves and that it hurts to loose someone who you looked up to (I’m treating it as if he is dead because my previous image of him was brutally stabbed to death). But he is only a man and there are many other people in the world.
If any one wants to talk about this (wants to rant, wants to just keyboard smash in anger, wants to cry [however you choose to express crying digitally]) feel free to do so. Or if you have anything to add, you can talk about that too. I know writing usually helps me to get through emotions and feel a bit better. Maybe it will work for you too.
btw if you have any other creators who have caused a similar situation, feel free to talk about that as well.

In thinking about how the Dragon Age games have changed since Origins, I’ve been thinking about genre conventions and the inspirations for the series.
Dragon Age: Origins is very very heavily lifted from Dungeons & Dragons, and my impression is that this is because Baldur’s Gate was a big inspiration. I think it’s especially obvious when you open up your character profile. Like that is straight up a d&d character sheet. You can map the d&d classes onto the DA:O subclasses too (e.g. some of the warrior subclasses are champion [classic fighter], templar [paladin], and berserker [barbarian]). The heavy focus on tactics and the top-down combat option also evoke TTRPGs to me.
And of course, because we’re existing in the genre tradition here, we have a lot drawn from the Lord of the Rings as well. Darkspawn/Orcs are an unambiguously evil species that exists just to cause destruction! Humans are the predominant species, but we have nature-connected elves and subterranean dwarves! Our story takes place in among the ruins of a past civilization that existed in a distant age! We’ve got themes of history and faith and a little fellowship going on a journey to defeat an evil dragon.
So with that in mind, we have a pretty straight up and down medieval-inspired dark fantasy. It follows so closely in this tradition that we even see the writers struggling to break out of molds that they explicitly set out to avoid—for example, certain gender politics.
I really think the character who starts to break that is Varric. Not only is he a well-known author (requires not just widespread printing but widespread literacy and reading for fun—now we’re talking much more recent history in our world) but he’s writing (Kirkwall-flavored) hard-boiled detective fiction, which is explicitly an American* post-WWI tradition. This is a genre that explores the gritty reality of life in cities, interpersonal and systemic violence, and often positions a lone morally grey hero in small-scale opposition to those larger forces. Kirkwall (and DA2) isn’t a bad place to add that flavor.
Inquisition starts to feel more 20th century to me as well. We’ve got international espionage and geopolitics. We’ve got anxieties of a dramatic apocalypse brought about by man’s hubris. We’ve got, effectively, some variety of civil rights movement for both elves and mages.
What really got me thinking about this is that Neve and Lucanis feel like they’re some the same genre to me: the jaded, brilliant, but somewhat poorly-upkept big city detective and the heir-apparent of a powerful mafia family caught up by a betrayal both feel very interwar noir imo. Emmrich’s look is also SO 1930s. I can only speak for myself but I think that’s where a lot of the change in “vibe” can be traced.
It feels to me like Varric’s narration of the series has tugged the story itself into the genre he exists in.
Anyway, whether you wish the series stayed more straight up and down sword and sorcery or like the direction it chose to establish itself, I think it’s interesting to think about!
* I might ramble about how deeply North American the geography of Thedas is another time lol
